Laugh together

A mother’s heart fills with immense joy and happiness when she sees or hears their baby’s smile or laughter.  The older your baby gets, the more joyful their smile become as he/she starts to communicate with you.

Babies have an incredible sense to know when a person is not smiling, and it’s never too late to start practicing your smile!  Relax you face, turn the corners of your mouth up and soften your eyes.

Peek-a-Boo

Babies love it when you play with them, and they will pay more attention if you join in with their games.  They like games like peek-a-boo because they can’t yet understand that you can still continue to exist when you are out of their sight, and that is exactly why they find peek-a-boo so hysterical !

Making sounds

Sing songs that require actions.  Babies recognise the actions associated with the songs and find it sometimes funny and even silly.  Babies laugh when they hear unusual sounds like the sound when you pop your lips or tongue or when you make sounds with your mouth on their body like their arm or tummy.   Change your very familiar voice into some sort of funny animal or bird and you’ll see that your baby will even find that hillarious.

Bigger children

Older children still share the sense of humor that babies have.  Get older children to play games with your baby, and both will thoroughly enjoy each others’ attention.   Babies can laugh at the silliest things bigger children do, even by just making squeeky voices, or making funny moves on the floor or in the air.

Playing

Get some toys and play with your baby.  Blow some life into some toys by making sounds and even hiding them behind the couch or bed.  Have conversation and use the toys to “talk” to each other, or have a chat yourself to some of the toys.

Your reaction to your baby’s giggles will give him reassurance that his laughter is very welcome and a lovely sound to your home!

Enjoy the giggles and laughter !
